History of MENDEZ WATER DISTRICT

The Mendez Water District was created by virtue of Sangguniang Bayan of Municipality of Mendez, Cavite Resolution No. 80 series 1989 pursuant to Presidential Decree 198, as amended otherwise known and referred to as the “Provincial Water Utilities Act of 1973.” On November 29, 1989, the MWD was awarded the Conditional Certificate of Conformance (CCC) No. 424 by the Local Water Utilities Administration after compliance with the requirement set forth.

Its mandate is to improve water system in the town and to supply potable water to its constituents. Its organizational structure includes policy making body composed of five members of the Board of Directors (BOD) that represents the following sectors; Civic-oriented Organizations, Professional Associations, Business Associations, Educational Institutions and Women’s Organizations, the General Manager and the Administrative, Commercial and Finance Division and the Engineering, Maintenance & Water Quality Division. It is now categorized as Category C Water District twenty three (23) Regular employees and eleven (11) Job-order employees.  At present, Mendez Water District is situated at Dimaranan St., Mendez, Cavite.

During its first year, the only water source was from Ulo Spring, Panungyan. In 1990s, the Japan International Cooperation Agency conducted the Cavite Water Supply Development Study to 9 LGUs in Cavite including Mendez, Cavite. And granted the construction of Pump II in Payapa. Eventually through loans from LWUA, MWD was able to construct additional deepwells. The LGU also donated the lot in SMA where one of the deepwells was constructed. The deepwells in Market Site, Burgos and Panungyan were also from LGU. Currently, MWD is already operating nine (9) Pumping Stations and covering the service areas of eighteen (18) barangays serving 5,460 concessionaires as of September 2019.
